How to find the Best Boxing Gym Classes Near You

Finding the best boxing gym classes near you is important, as boxing becomes almost a way of life, so picking a gym that helps you on your boxing and fitness journey is important. Here are some things to consider when choosing your home gym.

  1. Price – Looking for the cheap boxing classes near you might not be the only thing to consider. Eating well before and after workout is very important. Your body will need more protein as your metabolism increases so consider making room in your budget for good food and hydration.
  2. Location – Finding boxing classes near you is important as you want to fit your workout into your work schedule and life-style. Pick a gym that’s easy to get to on the train and has parking options. Or if possible within 15 min walk (or if you’re up to it – RUN). It’s a great way to stay healthy and even increase your longevity.
  3. Options – Not every gym provides other options like kickboxing / muay-thai, karate, krav-maga, bjj and other mma options. Trying other forms of martial arts is a great way to improve your body from head to toe.
  4. Quality of Training – Some gyms focus on fitness, which is good – however good technique is very important so you gain the benefits of proper movement and learning a real martial art, like western boxing or kickboxing. They gym should have awards, titles and active fighters to keep things fresh and founded in techniques that work.
  5. Options for Kids and Adults – Finding a boxing gym near you that is good for the entire family is important. As perhaps as a parent you need to work out your kid, teen and yourself. Find a boxing class that is good for the entire family and all levels.
  6. Good for all Levels – Find a boxing gym that is good for beginners, intermediate and advanced training as you will need to grow in fitness and technique over time.

If you’re looking for the best boxing or kickboxing gym classes near you, consider Supreme Team Boxing which has many pricing options for your budget and schedule, and is conveniently located off the 7 train on 33rd street on 34-09 Queens Blvd Long Island City, Queens, New York. Read the Gym Rules

  1. No Gum Chewing – You are going to be in an intense workout, and your breath control matters. Gum is dangerous during high-intensity workouts.
  2. No Street Shoes – We buy the best floor mats for your comfort, and the city streets can be grimy, so help us keep our floor mats clean and wear gym shoes or go barefoot.
  3. No socks – Boxing, Kickboxing and Karate have many lateral movements and socks are very slippery. So don’t forget your gym shoes or go barefoot.
  4. No Cursing. No Bullying. No Drugs – We’re your home gym with families and friends. Treat your home gym with respect and help others build better lives.
  5. Keep it Clean / Hygiene is Important – We understand that a boxing workout can be sweaty, which is why we provide showers and clean our mats and equipment daily. Help out your home gym by doing your part by showing up clean and refreshed to start your work out. If you come in from a hard days work, please feel free to use our showers so you can start fresh!

How to Wrap Your Hands

Coach Nelson shows us how wrap your hands properly, using 180 inch wraps. Practice the art of wrapping, so you can protect your hands and be ready for class.

There are 27 bones in the human hand, and injuries can range from, thumb, wrist and the 4 metacarpal bones on the back of your hand. We wrap our hands to keep our thumbs from sticking out and getting caught, as well as, our wrist bones from being displaced too much during impact as well as your 4 metacarpal bones from being individual stressed too much.

Logan Paul vs. KSI Pay-Per-View Fight

Why you can argue that the “popularity” of this fight in Manchester England comes from a “borrowed ladder” stemming from both Olajide William Olatunji (KSI) & Logan Paul’s work to progress themselves as a youtube celebrities with 6.6 million subscribers and 18.8 million subscribers respectively – let’s look at this from a raw boxing perspective.

Both opponents are relatively matched from a height, weight and experience perspective, with KSI 1-0 (1 KO against another Youtuber Joe Weller), and Logan with a slight height and minor weight advantage. While the boxing technique could be considered entry-level, both fighters put in effort each round leading to a majority draw with judges scoring 57-57 and 58-57 in favor of KSI.

In terms of general boxing technique, it’s a bit more of a brawl similar to the increasingly popular RnR (Rough and Rowdy) Fights; however there are six 3 minute rounds, and there are some reasonable basic techniques worth noting (excluding the dirty boxing, clinching, pushing, wrestling and general falling over.) such as philly shell defense, stiff jabs, hooks, etc.; moreover I have to give it to these two “public figures” stepping into the ring for such a public event, with such limited boxing experience, as a fighters character is exposed for all to see.

While this fight may be result of the new era of online personalities, brand promos and advertising revenue coming together to give audiences something new (as even seen in the Mayweather vs. Tenshin or McGregor crossover fights) – perhaps boxing at its highest levels can be argued has always been the same way, however the path to driving such an audience is different, for example the Marvelous Marvin Hagler fought from the streets of Newark NJ to claim his titles and financial rewards – whereas KSI and Logan arrived via a different path.

My hope is, regardless, that audiences don’t lose their ability to recognize the highest forms of boxing skills seen in GGG and new talent such as Ryan Garcia. Yet, perhaps however, we may be able to watch the journey of youtube celebrities from 0-0 to higher levels of skills, perhaps to the point where they can cross over into main-stream amature and professional territory. Wouldn’t that be something?

The Gloves: A Boxing Chronicle

The Golden Gloves tournament is center stage in amateur boxing-a single-elimination contest in which young hopefuls square off in steamy gyms with the boxing elite looking on.

Robert Anasi took up boxing in his twenties to keep in shape, attract women, and sharpen his knuckles for the odd bar fight. He thought of entering “the Gloves,” but put it off. Finally, at age thirty-two-his last year of eligibility-he vowed to fight, although he was an old man in a sport of teenagers and a light man who had to be even lighter (125 pounds) to fight others his size.

So begins Anasi’s obsessive preparation for the Golden Gloves. He finds Milton, a wily and abusive trainer, and joins Milton’s “Supreme Team”: a black teenager who used to deal guns in Harlem, a bus driver with five kids, a hard-hitting woman champion who becomes his sparring partner. Meanwhile, he observes the changing world of amateur boxing, in which investment bankers spar with ex-convicts and everyone dreads a fatal blow to the head. With the Supreme Team, he goes to the tournament, whose outcome, it seems, is rigged, like so much in boxing life today.

It’s hard to believe today, but the festival was created by four young people, the oldest of whom was only 27 at the time of “Woodstock. It all started when Michael Lang – who, at the time, was a barefoot hippie with a mop of curly hair and not a penny in his pocket – began to dream of a commune far from big cities where musicians could create for fun. He was very interested in music himself woodstock 99 lineup and was even the manager of the San Francisco band Triin. In his daydreams, Michael had already imagined this “hippie paradise” in all its colors, but there was one problem. He had no money to realize his ambitious project.

Robert Anasi tells his story not as a journalist on assignment but as a man in the midst of one of the great adventures of his life. The Gloves, his first book, has the feel of a contemporary classic.” – www.goodreads.com
